Week 12: Using Components and Closed Captioning

Review:
-using the the flv video component in flash, and converting .mov files to .flv using import video.
- if you are interested in flash cartoon animation, a new book has been released.

New Concepts:
- using the flv captioning component - (w3c specification for the xml file)
- textArea component
- ui loader component
- tilelist component
- quickly using actionscript to link the tilelist component to the ui loader component in order to create a dynamic slideshow presentation. (using only four lines of code!!)

Download Class Files.

and if you feel really comfortable with components check out this custom component created by Grant Skinner that does fire effects.

Assignment:

email mcarolin@mtsac.edu or hand in your proposal for final project. Your final project can be an animation, website, or other flash related project.

The proposal document should answer the following questions:
  • what is your .swf's framerate
  • what is your animations time duration (non linear content is infinite)
  • what is your .swf's dimensions (width and height)
  • estimate how much time will you need to finish the project
  • The objective or goal of your project
Your proposal should also dictate the scope of your project by an outline. For example, if your final project is an animation, then I expect to see an outline of your animation with storyboards of your key frames. If you are doing a website, then I expect to see a site outline that details sections, subsections, links, and content.

Week 8: Website Screen Build

Review:

-links shown in class as examples of people doing lip-synching animations in flash

-sites to keep current on interactive animation and design

-sites shown as examples of the screen build. Animations range from simple to complex solutions.

New Concepts:
  • integrating a loader into a website animation
  • creating an engaging animation that conceptually ties in with your content
  • conceptualing how your site forms from a blank screen - the simplest version of a screen build would be to fade all your content in from black, a more complex or elegant solution may involve revealing content based upon need or conceptual goal.

Screenbuild example:

Assignment:
  • Create your own screen build
  • the final screen must have a header/logo or conceptual equivalent
  • a way to navigate to different sections (buttons)
  • some sort of content (your stuff anything, seriously anything)
